Hi. I saved this particularly existential note for the end of the week.
What if I don’t “know” anything?
Wait, what? Of course I know things! So why write a sticky like this?
Because I’m a know-it-all1, as my spouse, parents, and kids can attest. (I’m getting better, truly.) I think the desire to know comes from a place of insecurity. I feel more valuable when I know things. But that can hinder me. If I feel I don’t know enough, I may not take action. If I know with certainty, I’m less likely to be open about other possibilities.
The reminder What if I don’t know anything? keeps me honest, humble, and curious.
What do you think?
Love,
Kate
p.s. There’s a lot more to say about “knowing”. Too much for a Daily Sticky post. If you like this sort of concept, check out my other Substack, Useful / Beautiful for longer form writing.
Here’s a piece I wrote about the weight of knowledge vs belief after having lumpectomy surgery for breast cancer.
If you haven’t noticed, I keep hundreds of sticky note reminders because I want to remember, to know these things.
