Hi. Let’s look at the Six Thinking Hats by creative thinking guru Edward de Bono. The Six Thinking Hats concept involves trying on different colored hats (metaphorically) which each have their own mode of thought. It helps you (and others) break out of your default mode — negative vs positive, factual vs intuitive, etc — in order to see and assess a situation more fully.
Today’s sticky is:
White Hat
Like white paper, neutral, data, information.
What info do we have?
What info is missing?
What into would be useful?
How might we get it?
There is an entire book about the Six Thinking Hats but for simplicity’s sake I’m going to borrow an excerpt from one of de Bono’s other books, Serious Creativity:
WHITE HAT
When you ask for white hat thinking at a meeting you are asking those present to put aside the proposals and arguments and to focus directly on the information. For the moment everyone at the meeting looks to see what information is available, what is needed, and how it might be obtained.
What do you think? How might this be useful to you?
Love,
Kate
